An excellent start to the grass season on Sunday (13th May 12) with the weather kind and good racing all
afternoon. There was a small controversy at signing on when the eligibility of a Yamaha WR250F engine
was queried for the 250cc 4 stroke class. I would confirm that Coningsby Kart Club rules do not mention
4 stroke 250cc engines. The classes are organised on an ad hoc system based on kart performance. (The
rules are very basic and will appear on the site shortly after some small updates are ratified by the
committee.) The 250cc 4 stroke class is run independently from the regular 250 class and is for karts fitted
with an engine of 250cc which is 4 stroke. As has always been the case, if any kart, for any reason, is
particularly quicker or slower than the others in the class we put it in another class.
The ethos of the club has never been to turn away any kart for anything other than safety reasons. So if
you are thinking of a YZ250F pure motocross engine, we shall be pleased to see you.
Membership of the club runs from 1st May to 30th April each year - the membership fee remains unchanged
again for 2012-13 at £15.00 for Seniors (16+) and £12.00 for Juniors. If you would like to fill in the
membership form prior to the meeting it is available here. (Note - 2 sides)
2012 Grass Championship entry fee per meeting also remains unchanged at £15.00 for Seniors (16+) and
£12.00 for Juniors.
Grass 2012 calendar can be found here Note that the second round of the Grass Championships is on the
third Sunday in June - not the second as normal.
What a drought! In the midst of potential hosepipe bans and threatened water rationing, the March
meeting was blessed with steady rain all day until just before the end of the second round of races we
were hit by a real rain storm. Sleet and snow in the rain just added to the fun. In order to declare results
for the meeting the first 3 races of the April Grand Prix meeting will be for the classes that did not get a
second race:
Race 1 Honda 4T twins / 250 4 strokes
Race 2 250 2T Grass / 125 2T Grass
Race 3 250 Road
Only the karts that were entered for the March meeting will be eligible to race.
Trophies for the March meeting will then be presented at lunchtime. (After the heats for the Grand Prix)
Sat 4 Feb 12 - 10.00am. SUNDAY 5th FEBRUARY MEETING CANCELLED BECAUSE OF SNOW.
Forecast of heavy snow this afternoon and tonight on our track, which already has a dusting of frozen
snow has meant we have unfortunately had to cancel this meeting. Next meeting: 4th March.
Fancy a go at start line flag marshalling? Instruction will be given for anyone interested, this Sunday.
(5 Feb 12) It is important to get some people interested as the current main road starter is about to get
a new kart out - and he is going to race it.
Winter shale track racing? Like the speedway track but without the barriers! Interested? Watch this space.
We are trying a new timetable on Sunday, 8 Jan 12: signing on will be from 9.00am until 10.00am. We
will ALL then set the track and safety barriers up, prior to drivers briefing and practise starting at 10.30am.
Please remember that no engines should be started before 10.30am to avoid interfering with the Church
service.
Please remember also that the first 4 karts to finish in each race must supply the track marshals for the
next race.
Andy Rolfe driving his Honda 4 stroke twin was the first to suffer from the new points system last
Sunday - 4th November. He scored a win in the first race followed by two second places. The points
for this would have been equalled by his nearest competitor who had a third in the first race followed
by two wins. Andy would have won overall on the day as he scored more points in the first race. Under
the new system Andy lost first place by one point. Andy doesn't like the new system. If you have any
comments about the new system, please let us know.
Changes were made to the rules at the AGM on 9th October 11, particularly relevant to the forthcoming
Winter Road Championships:
Points scoring: in future each race will be scored as follows -
1st 25 points
2nd 20 points
3rd 16 points
4th 14 points
5th 12 points - reducing thereafter to 2 points for 10th place and beyond.
This will discourage driving for points and lessen the effect of missing a race during the meeting.
A class or classes of karts will be elected at the start of the meeting to help
with track clearing up. How that group decide to organise themselves will be their responsibility, as we
appreciate there are times when competitors have to leave early, but you must work that out between
yourselves. We are all members of the club and must all do our bit to help.
Flag marshals: a representative of the first four karts across the finish line in
each race will flag marshal for the next race, otherwise points for that race will be deducted.
Results of the 2011 Grass Championships are available here. Full points totals are here.
The club AGM will be held at 11.30am prior to the 6th round of the Grass Championships at Swaton on
9th October 2011.
Team Racing 2011 - 31 Jul 11 Congratulations to the Coningsby Team Race drivers: we won all three
classes in a hot and dusty well fought contest, in a pleasant friendly atmosphere. Well done to all the
51 drivers who took part in the competition.
Results: Juniors: Coningsby 152 pts. Wisbech 122 pts. Bourne 98 pts.
Intermediate: Coningsby 84 pts. Wisbech 64 pts. Bourne 64 pts.
Gearbox Senior: Coningsby 258 pts. Bourne 202 pts. Wisbech 158 pts.
Team racing 2012 will be hosted by Bourne club and is expected to be on the 5th Sunday in July.
Members of all three clubs took part in a non-championship Grass Grand Prix after team racing: very
hot, very dusty and very enjoyable racing: results are here.

Annual Trophy Presentations took place after the excellent hog roast at Swaton Grass Track on
30th July 11, after the Fun Day on the track. Trophies were presented for the 2010 Grass Champion
-ships and the 2010-11 Winter Road Championships. Pictures will follow. A good time was had by all.
Kart Fun Day: we were blessed with bright sunshine all day. There were over 100 attempts at the
skills events - a marvellous turn out. Everyone enjoyed the event and vowed to return next year.
Road kart drivers who experienced a grass kart for the first time were amazed by the experience and
- who knows? - might be in their workshop now fitting a rear frame! Kart Fun Day skill test results here.
Shed full of old but useful kart bits and pieces? Bring them along to the Fun Day at Swaton on
Saturday 30th July to sell or swap. Alternatively, come and find that part you have been looking for!
The membership year runs from 1st May to 30th April. For the new membership form please click here.
(Please note it is two sides - both need signing) This will cover the 2011 Grass Championships and the
2011-12 Winter Championships. Membership cost is £15.00 for Seniors (16+) and £12.00 for Juniors.
2011 Grass Championship: entry fee per meeting is £15.00 for Seniors (16+) and £12.00 for Juniors.
Annual Trophy presentation news - here - more details shortly.
2010 - 11 Winter Road Championship results available here (full points scores available shortly)
2010 Grass Champioship results are now available, click HERE, full results. Points scores
are available here.
The date is fixed for 2011 Team Racing: this will be Sunday 31st July, 2011 and hosted by
ourselves at Swaton. Team Racing in the morning will be followed by the Grass Grand Prix
in the afternoon.
We are considering a bulk buy of Duro HF213 grass tyres as the price seems to have crept up.
Would anyone interested like to email me please (click here) with numbers they might like and
I will see what price we can get - no commitment needed at this stage!
Wisbech Club amazingly weren't able to arrange the Team Race meeting on 29th August 10,
but they have been able to arrange a meeting for themselves on 12th September - second
Sunday of the month - when we race. As a number of our members also race in the Wisbech
championships we have posponed our meeting until the 31st October. Comments on this
strange behaviour have already been received, alas either too crude or rude to repeat.
We shall be carrying out safety checks on karts before racing at Swaton on Sunday 13 June 10:
racers please note that you will not be allowed to race without rear mudgaurds.
It has been suggested we might hold a ladies race at Swaton on Sunday 13 June 10 - interested
ladies might like to bring your overalls and crash helmets.
To save time on race day, the annual membership form can be downloaded here. (Link removed)
(Please print double-sided if possible)
We shall be running a new class in 2010: Senior 125 4 stroke. This is to encourage any
parent who might fancy a run out on their offspring's kart, rather than as a step up from the
junior class.
The final round of the Winter Road Championships and Grand Prix races will be held on
Sunday 28th March 10 instead of 4th April - requested by a number of drivers as Easter Sunday
was particulalry difficult because of family and holiday commitments and the kart international
at Silverstone. The three heats will count towards the championship in the normal way and also
for the grid position for the Grand Prix finals. See you there!
Appalling weather yesterday (1 Nov 09) caused the cancellation of our first Winter Road
Championship meeting. Flooded track followed by the arrival of more heavy rain and high
wind left us no choice but to abandon the airfield. Very well done to everyone who set up the track
in a downpour and then had to pack it up in a downpour and high wind.
There has been some very close racing in the Grass Championships this year and to add
a little spice we are making the September meeting DOUBLE points! 200 points for 5 wins!!
Looking forward to seeing you all there. (If you are currently well up in the points and
have a genuine reason for not being able to attend we do have a cunning plan to make
amends)
Well done to Wisbech Club, re-winning the Junior and Senior Teams trophies on 30th Aug.
The competition was somewhat closer this year in both classes: Juniors finishing with
Wisbech on 190pts. Bourne 176 pts. and Coningsby 156pts. In the Seniors Wishbech
scored 266 with Coningsby on 244 with Bourne a disappointed third after a number of
mechanical failures. Many thanks to Bourne club for hosting the event. Special mention
should be made of the three Coningsby 250cc class drivers: Marcus Hudson, Fred Hornigold
and Ian Laws, who went on to finish 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the East of England Competition.
As we suspected, Cadwell is just not affordable this year. We might just be able to get an
evening early next year - snow rather than torrential rain? - we will keep you informed.
The first Grass meeting of 2009 was held on Sunday 10th May - an excellent days racing
in wonderful weather. A few more karts would have been nice, but a good afternoon was
had by all. We have introduced a new grass championship class for 250cc 4 strokes.
Congratulations to Nigel Jackson for winning the first round.
The Winter Championship results are now released: see them here.
An excellent winter series with some bitterly cold weather, but only one round of races
- and that not for all classes - postponed because of snow. Some interesting facts from
the Championshps: the most popular class was the 250 Road with 18 drivers scoring
points; second were the Four Stroke Honda Twins and the combined Cadet grids with
12 drivers scoring. The closest finish was in the Prokarts, with sisters Claire and Rachel
Smith finishing 2 points apart! Well done to all drivers. Last winter series road meeting
of the season is the Grand Prix on 5th April. The Grass Championships start at Swaton
on the 10th May.
Alas the Dinner Dance and trophy presentation has had to be postponed - see here
for further news as soon as we have it.
Please can we have all the remaining annual trophies back at the next meeting at
East Kirkby - 4th January. There aren't many outstanding - we know who you are!!
Don't forget - Dinner Dance and annual trophy presentation is 7th February at the
National Golf Centre, Woodhall Spa. (click for more details on the venue) Ticket price
is £20 for adults and £18 for juniors. An excellent evening is promised.
Grass 2008 Championship Results are released - see Results page
Phew! Tea shirts and shorts in the sunshine: Cadwell Track Evening on
Friday evening. Amazing but true. Well done to everyone for both coming
back after our miserable evening a fortnight earlier and for driving
well and safely.
As so many of you know, appallingly wet weather caused the postponement of the
Cadwell Track Evening. This is now scheduled for Friday 19th September 08.
We are being allowed out on the track earlier - to make up for the loss of daylight -
so we must all be signed on by 4.00pm. Again, anyone expecting to be a late arrival,
please let Dave and Sandy know to expect you - 01472 398475 / 07836 665454.
Cadwell Park Track Evening, using the full circuit, is on Friday 5th September 08.
Karts will be split into 3 classes with approximately 3 x 20 minute sessions for
each class. The hire of the circuit and the extra insurance becomes more
expensive each year - we are close to not being able to afford this event, so if
you have never driven round this magnificent circuit - home of the SuperKart
Grand Prix - make sure you attend this year!
Cost is £40.00 per driver, plus £5.00 day membership for non-Coningsby members.
(Or join up now for the winter Series) More details here.
Team Racing 2008 is on Sunday 31st August at Swaton, followed by the
Grass Grand Prix in the afternoon - all karts welcome. £2.00 day membership
for non-Coningsby members for the afternoon racing. (We should be disappointed
if the British Champions didn't come to race against the best from the other clubs!)
1st July 2008: Dinner Dance and Trophy Presentations for 2007-08 Winter
Championships and 2008 Grass Championships will be held at the National

new venue!
31 March 2008: Grass Calendar added to the site.
15 March 2008: Winter Road Championship results are on the results page.
19 December 2007: 2007 Grass Championship results are on the web site: here

Dinner Dance on 26th January, plus many others, including Team Race trophies,
Moffat Trophies etc. etc. Hope to see you there.
3 December 2007: UPDATE: Annual Trophy Presentations and Dinner Dance is to
be held on Saturday 26th January at Tattershall Lakes Country Park. Apologies to
those of you who had already marked this in your diaries. It seems we had
clashed with another local club's event.
(Although we had announced our date last June - hmm...very strange!)
Well done everyone who raced yesterday at East Kirkby - the weather was appalling,
but we had an incident free, good race meeting. Your Championship points were
well earned!
1st September 2007: an excellent evening at Cadwell, yesterday, with well over
100 karts present, from Cadets to twin cylinder Rotax long circuit karts. The
weather was wonderful. Many thanks to all who helped to put on the event.
22nd July 2007: Thanks to the stalwart efforts of our Chairman, Keith, we have
been able to hire Cadwell Park for the same rate as last year. The entry fee will
thus be £35.00 for members, with a £5.00 day membership for non-members or
join ready for the Winter Road Series - full membership runs until 30 April 2008
(£12.00 for adults or £10.00 for juniors). Please pre-book your place with Dave
and Sandy at SRM on 01472 398475 - or any other committee member.
27th July 2007: Cadwell Track Evening date announced: Friday 31st August
more information to follow.
9th Jul 2007: Team racing 29th July - Wisbech
